Multi input and multi output (MIMO) spatial diversity antenna configuration is specially designed for 3GPP long term evolution (LTE) mobile communication system. In fact, LTE system has three kinds of antenna technology: MIMO, beamforming and diversity. These three technologies are very important for improving signal robustness and realizing LTE system capability.
The MIMO method requires two or more transmit antennas and two or more receive antennas. This mode is not a simple superposition of miso and Simo, because multiple data streams are transmitted at the same frequency and time, so it makes full use of the advantages of different paths in the wireless channel. The number of receivers in the MIMO system must be no less than the number of data streams transmitted.
A basic form of MIMO is to assign a data stream to each antenna. The channel then mixes the two transmissions so that, as far as the receiver is concerned, each antenna receives a combination of data streams. Decoding the received signal requires skill, in which the receiver analyzes the pattern representing each transmitter to determine which combination it represents. Using the reverse filter and accumulating the received data stream will reconstruct the original data.
